TORRINGTON: The Torrington High School Varsity Alumni Club will hold their annual celebration on Tuesday, August 9th at Chatterley’s In Torrington.

This year, as in all the previous years the organization has been helping THS athletes, a stellar group of seven will be honored.

A “Magnificent 7” if you will.

Three football standouts from a team that made an appearance in the State Playoffs this year and posted a 9-1 regular season mark.

Nathaniel Bresson (Canterbury Prep), Connor Finn (Union College) and Zak Mancini (Western CT) all contributed towards setting a new standard for future Raider teams to measure themselves against.

The foundation under the football program is solid and these three had a lot to do with it.

Matthew Calabrese (UConn) will be recognized for his hard work and dedication on the pitch for the Raiders boys’ soccer team over his career.

Casey Saade (Quinnipiac) left her mark on the field for the THS girls’ soccer team and also in the classroom, where she excelled.

Sima El-Ayoub (Springfield College) is the pride of the girl’s tennis team and a stood out in everything she did at the high school during her stellar four year career.

Ashlynn Cook (Mount St Mary’s in Maryland) was a multi-sport athlete, excelling in cross country and track during her remarkable journey through high school.

These are seven tremendous young folks preparing to go out and make their mark on the world, as they did at Torrington High School.

This year’s banquet will be different for certain with the recent loss of one of the founders of the VAC, Dominic “Sonny” Toce’s passing earlier this month.

Toce was a treasure of a man who loved everything about being a Torrington Raider and will be truly missed.

So before they all head off to make the world a better place, let’s celebrate them one more time.
