TORRINGTON: Here’s a look back at how the locals did on the gridiron in week 5.

Comeback Win of the Week

Gilbert 20, Ellington 14 (OT): In a game they had to have, the Yellowjackets rallied from 14-points down with seven minutes to go to keep their run towards the post-season hopes alive.

“GN” understands it will take at least eight wins to get in the playoff mix in a tough Class M.

At 4-1 right now, the ‘Jackets are seventh ranked as the go into their bye-week.

The top eight make the cut.

After the off week, “GN” comes back with big games against Canton and Avon.

Always glad to see them get a Win

Wolcott Tech 34, Whitney Tech 0: A lot of firsts in this one.

First win of 2013, first shutout on program history.

The Wildcats and head coach Jamie Coty won two games a year ago and have a shot at winning three in 2013.

The Tough Sledding Continues

Naugatuck 33, Torrington 3: Head coach Gaitan Rodriguez and his team were down to their third quarterback on Friday night and had to improvise a new offense that was all about the run.

Regular QB Conor Finn may be back this Friday when the Raiders take on out of conference foe, Joel Barlow at the Robert H Frost Complex.

Stafford 30, Housatonic 8: Another rough afternoon for head man Deron Beyer and company as they fall to 0-4 with games against Avon and Lewis Mills upcoming.

Coginchaug 40, Lewis Mills 7: Mills at Granby next week before hosting the Mountaineers the following week at Muzzy Field.
