Wolcott Tech boys earn State Tournament berth with win over Bloomfield.

Game Scores: 25-15, 19-25, 25-18, 25-20

Waiting until the 11th hour, the Wolcott Tech Boys Volleyball Team beat Bloomfield HS, qualified for the state tournament, and set a school record in the process. They are the only team in school history to go to the state tournament 10 years in a row.

Setter Dennis Waibel had 43 assists, 27 digs, 1 kill; Outside Hitter Justin Tharau had 13 kills, 20 digs, 1 ace; Outside Hitter Steve Oakes had 10 kills, 2 blocks, 8 digs; Middle Hitter Tyler Kackowski had 15 kills, 2 blocks, 4 digs; Outside Hitter Jack Farrington 5 kills, 2 blocks, 5 digs; Trevor Brown had 1 block, 2 digs; Libero Francesco Chiaravalloti had 3 digs; Harkin Foster had 3 digs and Luke Pepper had 3 digs.

The coaching staff is very proud that team was able to overcome adversity, work thru some tough times and was able to secure the victory and continue the tradition of qualifying for the state tournament 10 years in a row.

Wolcott Tech’s record goes to 8-10 and Bloomfield goes to 10-8.

The Wolcott Tech Wildcats plays Wethersfield HS on Thursday, May 10, 2012 with a 4:00 junior varsity start, followed by varsity at the Wethersfield Gym.
