This year’s Omar N. Pollick Scholarship goes to Cora Nadeau. She is the daughter of Michelle and Ryan Nadeau of Torrington.
The annual $2,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Torrington High School or Wolcott Tech graduate every year since 1975 in honor of a great local sports activist.
Pollick, who died in 1973, promoted and coached Torrington youth sports all his life, with a particular fondness for Babe Ruth Baseball.
As a result, beyond good grades and citizenship, scholarship candidates are awarded bonus points for participation in Babe Ruth Baseball.
Nadeau did much more.
She graduated from Torrington High School this year with a 94.5 GPA.
She was also a member of the varsity volleyball team, serving as captain her senior year. Cora also is a member of the Varsity and Interact clubs. She has also volunteered her time for the community among many causes including the Ora Curry III Memorial Foundation, Camp Moe and Cherry Brook Health Care Center.
Cora is planning on attending the Coastal Carolina in the fall.
